About Me

Ian Dorward with his dog, Daisy

Growing up, having been born in the GTA but moved when I was 4, I called several small communities home — first Kanata when the population was just about 20,000, then Stittsville when the population was about 10,000, and later Wolfville, Nova Scotia, where I studied at Acadia University. Each place instilled in me a deep appreciation for tight-knit, small-town life.

For the past 17 years, Carleton Place has been my home, and moving here remains one of the best decisions I've ever made. In that time, the town has grown from roughly 9,000 residents to an estimated 17,000 by the end of 2026 — yet it has never lost the small-town warmth and charm that drew me here in the first place. I can't picture living anywhere else.

Today, I manage a local beverage retail business, which gives me the chance to connect with neighbours and hear their stories every day. My daughter starts grade 12 this fall before heading off to pursue her own path in 2027. My partner of nearly a decade recently joined me in Carleton Place, and together we've explored just about every trail and pathway this town has to offer — usually with our dog, Daisy, leading the way.

Why I'm Running

Carleton Place is one of the fastest-growing towns in Ontario, and I want to help guide that growth thoughtfully, so we can keep the character that makes this community special. Politics has been part of my life since childhood — from dinner-table debates with my parents, to late nights watching the news with my dad, to student council in high school, to canvassing for a young Alex Munter's campaigns for Kanata council and later mayor. Rather than simply voicing opinions from the sidelines, I want to help shape solutions at the council table.

I'm hoping to earn not just one term, but many, representing the community I love.

Efficient Municipal Services

Permits, inspections, and everyday requests to the town shouldn't mean weeks of phone tag. Ian will push for clearer service standards, faster response times, and a town hall that's easier to reach — so residents and local businesses spend less time waiting and more time getting things done.

Enhanced Community Waste Services

No more guessing when the truck comes. Ian will push for a reliable, clearly published collection schedule, expanded recycling and organics diversion, and a real process for missed pickups instead of a shrug.

Sustainable, Infrastructure-Ready Growth

Carleton Place has nearly doubled in population over the past two decades, and growth isn't slowing down. Ian wants roads, sidewalks, and sewers planned ahead of the next subdivision — not scrambling to catch up after it's built — so the town grows without losing what makes it feel like home.
